putting color on the walls

Since we are renting, we have decided for the time being to leave all the walls in our house the ivory color they are all painted.  Boring, but we don't want to put a lot of time/money into it if we decided after baby #3 comes that we need more room when our 1 year lease is up.  So I have been working on ways to put color on our walls & back into our lives (the carpet is brown btw so it's a lot of blah to look at).

Lets be honest... artwork can get expensive.  And unless you LOVE the picture or painting you see, it's really impersonal.  Since we all have a love for art projects, I decided to buy a couple of canvases and some paint that matches the boys bedding and let them make their own art for their room.

They chose the little spot of sun in our garage to sit and paint their hearts out.  It was such a blast!  I was so proud of Sean, if you look carefully you can see the Incredible Hulk he painted on his canvas.  Look how happy they both are!

Unfortunately, when they were finished and we left them there to dry, Nolan saw Sean's and apparently thought it needed more color... so he started to paint on it.  Sean starts crying so Nolan starts crying and our fun day was turning downhill really quickly.  I remembered that I had a blank canvas in a box so I dug it out and gave it to Sean to paint another.  So of course Nolan wanted to paint again, and I found a scrap piece of wood for Nolan to paint (he didn't care).  Quick resolution to the problem!

After they dried & we sprayed them with a gloss Dathan and I hung them up in the boys room (well, not the piece of wood).  I LOVE how it looks and the color that it adds to that part of their room!

And the boys are So proud when they look at their art hanging on the wall.  Nothing beats that!

Someday I may finish decorating their room, and if I do I will definitely share it with you!  Just wait til you see our collage wall I've been working on for the living room.... ;)
